For most people, taking a drive upstate is an idyllic escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. But for one Brooklyn man, it turned into a horror story when a rat crawled out from under the hood of his car.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, was already three hours into his drive when the uninvited guest made its grand appearance. “I had just stopped to get some snacks and when I got back in the car, the rat was just sitting there on my dashboard like it owned the place,” he recounted.
Terrified, the man tried to shoo the rat away with a water bottle. But the tiny intruder seemed unfazed by his attempts and simply scurried back under the hood of the car. “I could hear it squeaking and scratching around in there,” he said. “It was like something out of a horror movie.”
Despite the persistent presence of the rat, the man soldiered on with his journey, making sure to keep a close eye on his dashboard. “I was so worried it would climb up onto my lap or, worse, my head,” he said. “I know rats can carry diseases and I didn’t want to risk anything.”
The man finally arrived at his destination four hours later, exhausted and traumatized by his experience. “I couldn’t believe what had just happened,” he said. “I don’t think I’ll ever be able to drive upstate without thinking about that rat.”
While the man’s story may seem like a one-off, it’s actually not uncommon for rats to seek shelter in cars. According to pest control experts, rats often make their way into vehicles by climbing up the tires or crawling through small spaces in the undercarriage.
So, if you’re planning a road trip anytime soon, make sure to give your car a thorough check before hitting the road. Or, you know, you could always take public transportation and avoid the risk altogether.
In the meantime, our thoughts are with the Brooklyn man who bravely soldiered on through his rodent-infested journey. May his experience serve as a cautionary tale to us all.
