Oregon Humane Society Hosts Annual “Pug Crawl” Fashion Show, Goes Full Taylor Swift
In a move that absolutely nobody asked for, the Oregon Humane Society has decided to adopt a Taylor Swift theme for its annual “Pug Crawl” fashion show. Because nothing says “let’s celebrate adorable animals” like copying the persona of a notoriously petty pop star.
For those unfamiliar with the event, the Pug Crawl is a gathering of wrinkly, short-muzzled dogs all dressed up in ridiculous outfits. It’s basically a dog fashion show, but instead of being hosted by the type of person who has a framed photo of their own pet on their desk, it’s put on by a non-profit organization dedicated to animal welfare.
Or at least, that’s what it used to be. Now, thanks to the Oregon Humane Society’s questionable decision making, the Pug Crawl has been hijacked by Taylor Swift’s brand.
According to sources, the decision to go full T-Swift was made after someone on the organizing committee binge-watched all of the pop star’s music videos back-to-back while under the influence of too many energy drinks.
“It just seemed like such a good idea at the time,” the anonymous source said. “After a while, it felt like we were watching a bunch of cute little pugs prance around in the clothes that Taylor wears in her videos anyway. So really, it wasn’t that big of a leap.”
The source then inexplicably started humming “Shake It Off” before excusing themselves to go eat a tub of ice cream.
Despite some initial backlash from the community, the Oregon Humane Society went ahead with their Taylor Swift theme. The Pug Crawl featured dogs dressed in Swift’s trademark sparkly outfits, complete with miniature versions of the singer’s cats. And just in case it wasn’t clear enough that this was a Taylor Swift event, the dogs all had “I Knew You Were Trouble” printed on their little t-shirts.
While some attendees found the spectacle “cute,” “amusing,” and “entertaining,” others were less impressed.
“I don’t really see the point,” said one dog owner who wished to remain anonymous. “I thought the whole point of the Pug Crawl was to celebrate pugs, not Taylor Swift. This just feels like they’re trying too hard to be trendy.”
The Taylor Swift-themed Pug Crawl was not without controversy, however. Some critics pointed out that Swift’s brand is not exactly aligned with animal welfare, citing accusations that the singer’s cats are treated like fashion accessories rather than living creatures.
But the Oregon Humane Society defended their decision, saying that the Taylor Swift theme was simply a way to draw attention to the Pug Crawl and raise awareness about animal welfare issues.
“Look, we’re not saying that Taylor Swift is the poster child for animal welfare,” a representative for the organization said. “But we do think that this event is a fun way to get people talking about our cause. And if we can raise some money to help pugs in the process, all the better.”
So there you have it. The Oregon Humane Society’s annual Pug Crawl is now a Taylor Swift-themed fashion show, because apparently that’s what the world needs right now. One can only imagine what they’ll come up with next year.
