Rookie Mistake: Ex-Gov of North Dakota Fails to Lock Car, Gets Police Called On Him During Radio Show

Former Governor of North Dakota, Ed Schafer, was left red-faced yesterday when he received an unexpected interruption during his radio show. Schafer’s segment had just begun when the police called in asking if he owned a 2020 GMC Yukon. The ex-governor confirmed it was his vehicle, only to be informed that it was currently driving through the affluent streets of Fargo without him.

It turns out that Schafer had left his shiny new ride unlocked and running outside the radio station. And yes, you guessed it, some opportunistic thief had hopped in and driven off, completely unbeknownst to the governor.

Thankfully, a good samaritan had spotted the Yukon cruising around aimlessly and called the cops. The thief was soon apprehended and charged with grand theft auto. But the damage was already done, and Schafer’s foolish mistake had been exposed for all to see.

“I feel like an idiot,” Schafer admitted. “I’ve been in politics for years and know the importance of securing your property. But I guess I just got complacent.”

We asked a few of Schafer’s former colleagues for their thoughts on the incident, and the response was unanimously smirky.

“Looks like someone needs a refresh course on Crime Prevention 101,” chuckled one former state representative. “It’s like he’s never heard of locking a door before!”

Another longtime politician quipped, “I suppose next he’ll tell us he accidentally left his wallet on the sidewalk.”

It’s fair to say that Schafer has learned a harsh lesson, one that every North Dakotan knows well: Always lock your car, no matter what. It’s a simple rule that we all should live by, especially those in the public eye.

So let this be a reminder to us all: Don’t make the same mistake as ol’ Ed, and never forget to lock up your ride. Or else, who knows, you might end up being the punchline of a news story too.
