But one day, as she was driving down the highway, she noticed that the license plate on the car in front of her had the same numbers as her birthday. She decided to take this as a sign from the universe and bought a lottery ticket with those same numbers. Lo and behold, she ended up winning $50,000.
Upon hearing the news, the woman expressed her gratitude by saying, “I can’t believe it! It must be so nice to have the universe so blatantly and conveniently show you the path to riches. It’s not that we’re bitter or jealous or anything, we’re just saying that maybe it’s a little unfair that this woman was able to win the lottery with what seems like such little effort on her part. She didn’t have to strategize or analyze the odds or even have any real skill or talent. All she had to do was notice a license plate and suddenly she’s $50,000 richer.
But hey, we’re not raining on her parade. We too would feel pretty ecstatic if we suddenly won that much money. We just can’t help but be a little annoyed at how easy it seems for some people. Meanwhile, the rest of us are over here budgeting our groceries and rent payments. Maybe we need to start paying closer attention to license plates on the road.
In all seriousness, though, winning the lottery is always a one-in-a-million chance. It’s a game of luck, and sometimes that luck can come from the most unexpected places.
