According to the library’s website, the borrower’s family members “were surprised to see that the book was still in their possession, as they had left British Columbia in the early 1940s and had assumed that the book was lost.”
What a heartwarming tale of family, nostalgia, and literature. It’s enough to bring tears to your eyes. A book returned after all these years, reuniting with its rightful home. If only the borrower, whomever they might be, could see the joy their return has brought to the world.
Of course, we all know that the real hero of this story is the New Westminster Public Library. Without them, who knows where this book would be. Languishing in a musty old box? Rotting away in a landfill somewhere? The thought is too terrible to bear.
Thank goodness the library was able to step in and provide a safe haven for this literary treasure. We can all rest easy knowing that “The Adventures of Pinocchio” is back where it belongs, nestled comfortably on a shelf, waiting for the next eager reader to discover its magical tale.
It’s hard to imagine what other long-lost treasures might be lurking in attics and basements across the world.
